Dr. Amy Bergquist, Brodheadsville Veterinarian

What attracted you to vet medicine?

I feel like I grew up with everyone knowing I should be a veterinarian before I even knew I wanted this profession. I had pet’s my entire life from dogs and cats to rabbits and even a caterpillar. While I was in high school, I was able to volunteer at a small clinic and immediately fell in love with the actual work. Being able to see the doctor examine a sick animal and know exactly what was wrong and how to fix it, I knew I wanted to be able to do that.

What do you love most about your profession?

Puppies and Kittens!  First visit appointments are my favorite, seeing everyone excited about the new addition to their family and also being able to guide and educate owners on caring for them.

Do you have any special interests?

I love conservation medicine. Before becoming a veterinarian, I had the opportunity to volunteer with sea turtles for 3 years as well as travel to Africa to assist in veterinary work there and fell in love with that branch of medicine. I hope in the future I get the opportunity to work with wildlife life again but this time as a veterinarian.

What are your goals when you meet clients and patients?

Client education! I always want to make sure owners are fully informed in the basic care for their pets, especially preventative care, importance of lab screening and weight management, as well as clarify any misinformation they may have come across on the internet. I want both owners and patients to feel comfortable during their visit.

What pets do you have?

14 year old Pembroke Welsh corgi named Annabelle.
